Power Generation

Generation Facilities

Textile manufacturing runs around the clock and depends on a constant supply of electricity, steam and cooling. Even a brief power cut or voltage fluctuation can stop machines, damage yarn and fabric, and delay customer orders. Energy is also one of the largest costs in textile production, and its price decides how competitive Pakistani exporters are against regional producers.

This is why Nishat Mills Limited generates its own power. Each of our major mills in Faisalabad, Sheikhupura and Lahore has its own power plant, giving our spinning, weaving, processing, stitching and apparel units a reliable, uninterrupted and cost-effective supply of energy, while reducing our reliance on the national grid.

Our plants are Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plants, which means they produce both electricity and useful heat from the same fuel. Heat from the generating engines, which would otherwise be wasted, is captured and used to produce the steam our processing units need, getting far more out of every unit of fuel than buying power and steam separately.

The plants use engines from leading international manufacturers, including Wärtsilä, Caterpillar, Cummins, Daihatsu, Jenbacher and MaK, alongside steam turbines and solar panels. They can run on gas, coal, biomass, furnace oil or diesel, allowing us to use the most economical fuel available, with grid connections as back-up wherever feasible

Total installed generation capacity is 174.94 MW, including 41.61 MW of solar.

Energy Efficiency

Saving energy is built into how our mills run. Waste heat recovery boilers with economizers use hot exhaust gases to pre-heat boiler water, and biomass boilers run on agricultural residue instead of fossil fuels. Across our units, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) adjust motor speed to actual demand, while LED lighting, energy-efficient machinery, chilled-water cooling and steam-saving measures further cut our fuel use, operating costs and carbon emissions.
